Gary Klein
After graduating from Central Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Social Services, Gary began his Youth Development career working at the Ft. Lewis Youth Service. He worked in various departments such as Leisure Services, Teen Recreation, and Athletics. He was hired as the Program Director of the Boys and Girls Club of South Puget Sound Gonyea Branch in January 1995.
During his time as the Program Director, Gary has enjoyed being a part of the lives of the children and families who attend the Gonyea branch. One of the highlights of his job is watching the kids grow up and become young adults. He gets the privilege of helping them learn how to make good choices, get along with others, and have fun. Another highlight of his day is to get a visit from a former club member who is all grown up. He desires to give children the opportunities they need to be successful. He knows the importance of being a good role model. He has a few mottos in life, but one that has been placed on his heart is, “The work can wait while you show the children the rainbow, but the rainbow won’t wait while you finish the work.” (IMKH). He believes it is his work to show the children the rainbow. Gary strives to bring the rainbow to the kids. He is always inventing new games and implementing new programs for the club. He has been dedicated to supporting programs and partnerships with organizations such as Metro Parks Golf Course, Tacoma Art Museum, and Miracle Ranch. He is a product of Boys and Girls clubs training and opportunities. Some of these opportunities include being a BGCA
Academy member at the distinguished level,
participating in Program Institute training and
serving on past planning committee’s for Program
Institute. He was part of a staff who won the Honor
Award for program excellence in the Category of
Sports, Fitness, and Recreation. He is an active
member of the Boys and Girls Club of South Puget
Sound team.
