Joy Cornelius
Joy has been working with children since 1984 volunteering through church as a youth program coordinator and a summer camp counselor. In March of 1997 Joy joined the South End Branch of Boys and Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound as a part time Program Specialist concentrating on “The Arts” core program. Joy was also a full-time student at Tacoma Community College, working towards her Associates Degree in Human Services. By March of 2000 Joy had earned her degree and a permanent, full-time spot on the South End Staff as the Program Director.
As a Program Director Joy oversees all program staff and volunteers as they work towards excellence in the five core area. Joy has organized numerous talent shows, allowing kids to realize their potential in the Arts as well as being a constant positive role model, counselor and friend to numerous children on a day to day basis.
Joy’s educational pursuits have continued with her full-time enrollment at The Evergreen State College, Tacoma Campus where she plans to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in June or 2003. Joy will be a first generation college graduate in her family and proves to be an inspiration to the members and staff.
Joy still fondly remembers her very first day on the job, being toured through the club by a member named Geoff and the overwhelming feeling that she was “home”.
