Katie Smith
Katie grew
up in the Lynwood area, where her passion for
working with youth began at the Alderwood Branch for
the Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County. During
her high school years, she worked at the Alderwood
Club as a Soccer Official and a Basketball
Referee. During those years she helped to teach
the team members and youth the basics of the sports,
as well as became a mentor and tutor to some of the
youth at the Club – and of course, became a true
follower of the Boys & Girls Club vision.
When she
moved to the Tacoma area to attend Pacific Lutheran
University, she found out about the Work Study
positions at the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget
Sound and promptly began working with the youth at
the Lakewood Branch as a Program Specialist.
Through her work her commitment grew and she desired
to help more youth and families in the area; she
soon accepted a job with the South Pierce County
Branch where she would be Site Coordinator for the
Christensen Outreach Site.
After
graduation from PLU in 2005 with a Bachelor in
Business Administration, she tried her luck in the
mortgage industry, but desperately missed the work
she did with the Boys & Girls Clubs. When the
position for Program Director opened up at the South
Pierce County Branch, Katie returned full force and
has been loving her career!
During her
spare time, Katie enjoys spending time with her
husband and kids – a Chocolate Lab named Hunter and
two cats. At her own home she bakes, gardens, and
consistently brushes up her interior design
skills. She also spends time across the Narrows
with family swimming, wakeboarding, hiking, and of
course relaxing.
