Mike obtained his
Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems
from Washington State University in 2001. He held
various tech positions which satisfied his attention
to detail, but was severely lacking substance. He
continually held a desire for teaching youth, but
had not the opportunity to actively pursue that
avenue.
In 2005 Mike began his
journey in teaching within the North Mason School
District. As a Para educator his role was assisting
developmentally disabled and children with
behavioral issues. While substitute teaching the
opportunity became available within the Boys and
Girls Club for a part-time position as Program
Specialist. He then transitioned into the role as
Computer Lab Director at the North Mason Teen
Center. In November of 2006 Mike accepted a
full-time position as the Computer Lab Director at
the Al Davies Boys and Girls Club. Mike at that
time, had a realization that the traditional
educational setting was not designed for his freedom
of expression and varying outlook regarding similar
subject matter.
In March of 2007 Mike
accepted the Program Director position for the North
Mason and Bremerton Branches. He then realized that
the Boys and Girls Club was a great way to make an
impression with youth taking into account the
like-minded core values the program has to offer.
The Boys and Girls Club is the perfect platform for
incorporating his ideals of Kids At Hope, not kids
at risk. He finds serving youth on the front lines
extremely rewarding, knowing he is making a direct
impact. His ideals of instilling a sense of
self-worth, respect, and a splash of humor, are key
life skills. |
