REPORTS TO:                 Custodial Supervisor and Branch Director of the Club

SALARY:                          $12.35/hr       Hours:  Graveyard Shift                                     

PRIMARY FUNCTION:  

Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor this individual’s primary responsibilities are the care and upkeep of assigned Branch.  The Branch Custodian implements the organization’s Property Management Program utilizing the Property Management Manual.  All of the facilities operated by the organization shall convey a safe, clean and attractive environment conducive to youth development.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assures that the overall appearance of the facility is safe, clean and attractive and meets the needs of the HOPE Center and BGCSPS.
  • Assures that the facility and housekeeping standards for the HOPE Center/Branch is followed.
  • Informs supervisor of specific maintenance and repairs that need to be completed and follows through to see that in-house repairs are done in a timely fashion.
  • Follows policies and procedures to include financial procedures of the organization.
  • Maintains housekeeping and maintenance files and keeps them current at all times.
  • Conducts annual inspections as assigned and/or required and documents accordingly.
  • Performs assigned and identified repairs/maintenance tasks at scheduled intervals and as needed and appropriate.
  • Performs janitorial services daily for the facility which includes some grounds keeping services.
  • Follows policies and procedures for ordering supplies and maintaining inventory.
  • Respond in a timely and professional manner to requests from tenants, staff, and others.
  • Responsible for maintaining supplies, inventory and equipment in an orderly and organized fashion.
  • Reports concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Completes assigned duties in a timely professional manner.
  • Performs very minor carpentry, electrical and plumbing work as necessary and in a timely manner.
  • Assists in annual cleaning/floor care of all Clubs.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1 Adheres to organizational policies and procedures.

2.   Meets or exceeds record keeping deadlines.

3.   Meets or exceeds cleaning, maintenance and repair deadlines.

4.  Works closely and cooperatively with Club staff, tenants, and others.

5.   Serve as a positive role model for youth and teens.

6.   Other duties as assigned related to this position.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:  Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain, demonstrate or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.  Works cooperatively with building tenants, guests and others always maintaining a professional and positive attitude.

External:  Maintain contact as needed and appropriate with external community groups, organizations that partner with BGCSPS, schools, member's parents and others as needed and appropriate. 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three years documented paid work experience as a custodian.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Computer skills to include ability to access, input and retrieve information from the computer.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and productively with others.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Current driver’s license, dependable vehicle and agency required vehicle liability limits.
  • Must pass national criminal background check and pre-employment drug test.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position regularly involves lifting, walking, reaching, grasping, climbing and bending during each shift and requires standing for long periods of time.  This individual must be able to lift 70 pounds and operate standard janitorial/maintenance equipment.  This position also involves walking, talking, hearing, seeing and may require driving between sites or driving to pick up supplies.  This individual will also be working with chemicals that are used for cleaning and sanitation.  This individual will be working around youth and adults mainly in an indoor working environment but will also have some grounds keeping duties.
