Approximately 29 hrs per week during school year

35 to 40 hrs per week during the summer             

REPORTS TO:                    Lead Day Care Teacher

SALARY:                              $10.00 per hour

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The child care assistant is responsible for helping the Lead Teacher plan and provide programs and activities which stimulate the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual growth of children in a group setting.  This individual must be able to operate independently with a minimum of supervision.  This position requires independent decision making and the use of discretion and good judgment relating to a variety of routine and non-routine child situations and circumstances.  Major decisions are subject to review and approval of the Child Care Coordinator and Director.

 KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

·        Assists the lead teacher with daily classroom events and programs

·        Assists in the planning of programs for 6-12 year olds in accordance with the policies and philosophies of licensing requirements

·        Provides a stimulating learning environment/classroom through curriculums, programs and activities

·        Provides a safe environment at the center and on field trips

·        Assumes equal share of joint housekeeping responsibilities

·        Maintains a safe and orderly playground

·        Establishes a positive relationship with staff and parents

·        Reports all suspected child abuse to Child Care Coordinator

·        Maintains accurate classroom records to include daily attendance, inventory and recording of accidents, injuries and illnesses

·        Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

·        Must be 21 years of age or older

·        High school diploma or GED

·        TB Test

·        CPR/First Aid Training – able to obtain once employed

·        HIV/AIDS Training – able to obtain once employed

·        STARS Training – able to obtain once employed

·        Valid Washington State Drivers License

·        Demonstrated knowledge of children’s needs, growth and development

·        Direct experience working with children in a group setting

·        Must be able to pass a criminal background check
